For the second time in 7 years, we have had to evacuate our little homestead. It is heartbreaking and oh-so-difficult. Thank the Lord, all the humans are safe, and we were able to get almost all the animals out (64 of them), except for the two barn cats. Minley is too skittish to be caught, and Midnight was avoiding us as well. We left a ton of food out for them, the ability to get in and out of the barn, and a huge tub of water with a heat tape in it to keep it thawed (as long as there is electricity).
Our livestock and pets have been spread over 6 different farms and homes and they are safe and being cared for. We are being put up for free by the amazing generosity of Brookside Gardens, in Berthoud Colorado. It is a beautiful event center – if you ever want a place for a wedding or other event, you definitely need to check this place out. And the people who run it are amazing and caring and are letting us stay in 4 beautiful rooms for free. The house is a restored old brick cottage and it has so much character and is so well done. We have plenty of space for the 8 of us.
So many people have stepped up to help us out and we are amazed and humbled by the love and generosity of everyone. Thank you all SO much. We really appreciated it.
It is surreal, and strange for us to all just be sitting still and not knowing what to do but just wait. We are such an active family, constantly working on the homestead from dawn to dusk every day. We have nothing to look after, no barn chores to do, no kitchen projects…it is a very different situation for us. But we are all safe and that is what is important. God is carrying us through this storm.
