Chick Growth Pictures: Hatch – 5 weeks

Many years ago, for the kids’ science, we took pictures of them holding the same chick each week as the chicks grew to see the growth that chicks do from birth to 6 weeks of age.  I posted the pics on my blog.  The kids were younger and my photography skills were not so great, but the posts have always been very popular on my blog.  Now Young Man loves photography and has agreed to help me do it again, but with even better photos.  I will update the posts each week with the next photos.

This week was about major growth.  We can feel the difference significantly when we pick them up, and you can see in the pictures how much larger their bodies are.  There are some new feathers, but more growth than feathers.

    • They are absolutely not full grown yet. They still have 10-14 weeks until they are fully mature. But once all their feathers are in, the changes they undergo mostly have to do with getting bigger, so there is not much interesting in photos. I do plan to do another photo at 8 weeks, and then at least one more at 16 weeks – maybe I will do 12 weeks too. Fear not – the photos aren’t completely done yet! 🙂
